This traditional American song was popularized by beloved folk musician and activist Karen Dalton. Ever since hearing her classic rendition, I've been intrigued by the story of hardship and misfortune. Upon further reflection, the narrative offers an opportunity for gratitude. For friends, for community, for music - and many other gifts in this beautiful life. I also feel immensely grateful for the gift of Karen Dalton's music, a raw diamond in the rough. Another gem among gems is the classic tune Shakin' Down the Acorns from the playing of West Virginia fiddler Edden Hammons.
